Bees, wasps and mosquitoes
If you find bees nesting on your property, please contact a qualified pest control agent, an Apiarist or the South Australian Bee Keepers Society.
We are not able to destroy bees.
Bee keeping is legal, however if you keep bees in South Australia you must hold an Apiarist's license.
Contact the Department of Primary Industries and Resources SA (PIRSA) to apply for a licence.
There are many types of native wasps which are an essential part of our ecosystem with two of the more common wasps being the Mud Wasp and the Paper Wasp. We do not provide a mud wasp or paper wasp removal service however, another wasp residents will encounter is the European Wasp.
If a European Wasp nest is found on council land or on private property in the local area, contact Customer Service on 8416 6333 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. If you are unsure of the wasp type, you can submit a photo with your request.
The only way to get rid of European wasps is to find and treat the actual nest, therefore we will not dispatch a contractor unless the nest location is identified or, the location of a steady stream of wasps coming and going is pinpointed.
European wasps are the only wasps we will pay to have removed. Residents will need to pay for the call out if it is for any other type of wasp.
While the European wasp nest example shown above is external, many European wasp nests are located in the ground, a wall cavity or similar and therefore may not be visible. If you find a nest contact us immediately. Do not try to disturb or destroy the wasp nest yourself.
For further information, please read our European wasp information sheet.
Mosquitoes need to be controlled to protect the community from mosquito related disease. We help to do this is by:
- inspecting potential problem areas
- providing advice to help control and eliminate breeding sites.
