About the Youth Advisory Committee

Background

At its meeting on 12 December 2023, Council approved the establishment of a Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) to commence from May 2024.

The YAC provides a forum in which young people across West Torrens are provided with a meaningful strategic platform to share their views, develop recommendations, and provide advice to Council and work together to build strong partnerships across the organisation and within the wider community.

Current Youth Advisory Committee Members

The YAC is comprised of 4 elected members and 13 student representatives from 6 local high schools within the West Torrens area as follows:

  • Cr Zoi Papafilopoulos
  • Bhavin Rajput representing Plympton International College
  • Charmaine Mackrell representing Plympton International College
  • Andoni Charalambous representing St George College
  • Deana Mazis representing St George College
  • Benjamin Schaefer representing Temple Christian College
  • Joanne Perera representing Temple Christian College
  • Ryan Hocking representing Immanuel College
  • Harry Sherriff representing Immanuel College
  • Shivaar Briglal representing Immanuel College
  • Evan Pertsinidis representing Underdale High School
  • Remiel Riziki Mzee representing Underdale High School
  • Mohamad Hanad Ismail Aden representing Thebarton Senior College

Meetings

The City of West Torrens Youth Advisory Committee meets on the 4th Tuesday of every 2nd month at 4pm in the Civic Centre, 165 Sir Donald Bradman Drive, Hilton.

The YAC meeting dates for 2026 are as follows:

  • Tuesday 24 March 2026
  • Tuesday 26 May 2026
  • Tuesday 28 July 2026
  • Tuesday 22 September 2026
  • Tuesday 24 November 2026.

The public and media are welcome at meetings, however there are general protocols for those wishing to observe the proceedings. Members of the gallery cannot take part in debate at meetings, do not need to stay for the entire meeting and may leave quietly at any time.
