Volunteering

social-support.jpg

Volunteer work is unpaid work. Volunteers offer their time and services to the community freely and help us to extend the range of services offered to our residents.

If you’re a caring person and would like to give your time to assist others, we offer a variety of rewarding roles in the community. These roles can be viewed via the link at the bottom of this page.

Please note: The City of West Torrens is a COVID-19 vaccinated workplace. In the event you are successful in gaining a volunteering placement with the City of West Torrens, you will be required to provide evidence of your 'up to date' vaccination status.

Community activities

Community activities and areas you can get involved in volunteering include:

Toy Library

Help out at the Toy Library by:

  • checking returned toys for damage
  • ensuring all pieces have been returned
  • entering returns into the computer system
  • cleaning the toys
  • re-shelving the toys.

English classes

Help people whose home language isn’t English. Work under the direction of language tutors either in groups or one-to-one.

Volunteers also help supervise young children in a crèche while their parents take part in English classes.

Hamra Centre Library

Work with library staff on a variety of library tasks.

Justice of the Peace (JP)

Registered JPs can volunteer their services to the public from an office in the Hamra Centre Library.

Community bus service

Drive a small or larger bus or provide assistance to passengers as needed.

Social support for older people

Assist with a variety of activities and events for older people including our community meal and active ageing events.

Specialised/new roles

From time to time we have roles become available which require specific sets of skills or are new in our organisation. When these roles are created, we'll advertise them here and through SEEK. If you have a skill set that you think could be useful, contact us for a chat.

Roles with other organisations

If we do not have a volunteering opportunity that interests you, maybe one of our local not-for-profit organisations will.
