Update your DACO details

With animal registrations due from 1 July, dog and cat owners are reminded that it is your responsibility to ensure your pet's information is uploaded, and up-to-date, via Dogs and Cats Online (DACO).

Vets do not have to record this information if they have provided you with evidence that your pet is microchipped and/or desexed. It is your responsibility as a pet owner to ensure that you complete on-line registration. If you do not upload evidence of your pet's information into DACO, council officers cannot quickly locate the necessary registration details if your pet is found wandering at large or injured.

DACO is a state-wide dog and cat management database which records information about dogs and cats. This information is useful to help council officers reunite lost pets with their owners. If this information is not recorded in DACO, it is more difficult for us to find the rightful owner. When, and if, we do manage to find the rightful owner, you could receive a warning or expiation for not uploading/updating information in DACO.

What if I don't know my pet's microchip number?

If you don't know your pet's microchip number, you can contact your local vet who can scan your pet and provide you with the number.

Petchip scam

Pet owners are also being reminded to avoid a scam targeting pet owners called Petchip.

Petchip preys on pet owners by sending a fraudulent email urging owners that their pet's microchip registration will expire if they do not pay to update and continue their registration.

The emails contain a lot of personal information and, subsequently, appear to be legitimate. This information is in no way affiliated with the Dog and Cat Management Board and, if your pet's microchip information is registered with DACO, this is for life. More information can be found on the Dog and Cat Management Board's website.
