Microchip your dog
Published on 09 July 2025
Looking for a quick and inexpensive way to microchip your dog?
We're holding 2 microchip events in July and August where you can have your dogs microchipped for only $10 each.
Both events will be held at council's Civic Centre, 165 Sir Donald Bradman Drive on the following dates:
- Saturday 26 July, 9am - 12pm.
- Thursday 21 August, 5pm - 8pm.
Officers will also be on hand to provide assistance with new dog registrations and renewals (no bookings required for assistance, walk ins welcome). If you are registering your dog for the first time, you will need to provide the following paperwork:
- proof of desexing
- microchipping - if already completed elsewhere, otherwise please book a microchipping slot
- change of ownership details
- concession cards (if relevant)
- training certificates (if relevant).
Note: bookings for dog microchipping are essential and dog owners must read and agree to information contained in our disclaimer before attending. This service is available only to West Torrens residents at this time and proof of residency will be required.
Benefits of microchipping
- Permanent identification - as the chip is embedded under the dog's skin it cannot be easily lost or removed.
- Reuniting lost pets - if your dog has a microchip and the registration details are up-to-date, you have a better chance of being reunited with your pet if becomes lost and is found by council officers, vets or animal shelters.
- International travel - if you are taking your pet overseas, a microchip is often required.
