The West Torrens Library Service offers a series of free, small group IT classes for beginners and intermediate users covering a range of topics in digital technologies. Classes are scheduled on Fridays and Saturdays and are taught using Windows based computers and a range of mobile devices in the Library's Learning Centre.

Participants must be members of a South Australian public library and bookings are essential for all classes. Classes are free.

Cyber awareness seminar

Cybercrime experts from SAPOL will be attending the Hamra Centre Library to discuss 'how to protect yourself' online as part of Cyber Security Awareness Month.

Topics include:

  • Latest scam methods and prevention tactics
  • Respectful online relationships
  • Treading carefully with your digital footprint
  • Phishing, smishing and vishing red flags
  • Reporting and supporting agencies.

When: Wednesday 11 October 2023, 6.30pm – 7.30pm.

Game-based typing

Typing is a necessary skill in today’s technological world.

Want to improve your typing ability? Come along and practice your typing with some game-based typing programs. Take a typing test to determine your speed and accuracy, then learn tips and tricks to improve your skill.

This class also coincides with Get Online Week, so there’s no better time to begin your typing journey and practice getting online.

Feel free to bring your own laptop or a tablet with an external keyboard. Devices will also be available to use on the day.

When: Saturday 21 October 2023, 1.30pm – 3.30pm.

Where: Learning Centre, Hamra Centre Library. 

Skill level: Beginner to intermediate.

A guide to artificial intelligence

This introductory talk on artificial intelligence and emerging technology will be presented by Dr John Flackett of AiLab. It will be an exciting, lighthearted and informative look at what impact AI is having on the world. This talk will also explain what AI is and why business, governments and community should learn more about this exciting field. With a focus on real-world AI capabilities, John will highlight the opportunities for latest AI-powered tools and techniques.
