Art and Connection in West Torrens – from July 2025

As you make your way around the City of West Torrens, be sure to keep an eye out for the little pink roofed galleries - found in parks, along the river, near cafes and even in front of the West Torrens Library.

These Little Galleries have become a much loved part of the West Torrens landscape, exhibiting the works of talented artists themed around fascinating Westside Stories.

Wellbeing Wednesdays

The latest Little Galleries exhibition is all about Art and Connection in West Torrens – evoking familiar scenes and feelings,  the artists involved represent a diverse understanding of what Suburbia in West Torrens means to them.

Every Wednesday afternoon, as part of the Wellbeing Wednesdays program at the Lockleys Community Room, a group of community members have been meeting at the weekly art class with experienced artist and teacher Michelle Stratton.

Initially, participants would walk in one or two at a time, a little nervous or apprehensive about the idea of learning art, and/or meeting strangers.  But as the weeks go by, confidence has grown, friendships have been formed and stories have been shared.

This exhibition – found in eight Little Galleries in locations around West Torrens - is a little taste of the weekly learnings in:

  • Watercolours
  • Charcoals
  • Acrylics
  • Pens
  • Abstract
  • Still life
  • Landscape
  • Play

The artists represented across these eight galleries are Michelle (teacher) Gerry, Jillian, Marg, Louise, Maree and Jenn. For most of these artists, this is their first ever exhibition – bravo!

Wellbeing Wednesdays are a joint project between the City of West Torrens and Preventive Health SA.

Little Galleries

Little Galleries are exactly what they claim to be.  A small space - 500 x 600mm gallery - for exhibitions of small art created by amazing artists.
