Volunteer work is unpaid work. Volunteers offer their time and services to the community freely and help us to extend the range of services offered to our residents.

If you’re a caring person and would like to give your time to assist others, we offer a variety of rewarding roles in the community. These roles can be viewed via the link at the bottom of this page.

Community activities

Some of the community activities and areas you can get involved in are:

Toy Library

Help out at the Toy Library by:

  • checking returned toys for damage
  • ensuring all pieces have been returned
  • entering returns into the computer system
  • cleaning the toys
  • re-shelving the toys.

English classes

Help people whose home language isn’t English. Work under the direction of language tutors either in groups or one-to-one.

Volunteers also help supervise young children in a crèche while their parents take part in English classes.

Hamra Centre Library

Work with library staff on a variety of library tasks.

Justice of the Peace (JP)

Registered JPs can volunteer their services to the public from an office in the Hamra Centre Library.

Community bus service

Drive a small or larger bus or provide assistance to passengers as needed.

Specialised/new roles

From time to time we have roles become available which require specific sets of skills or are new in our organisation.

We are about to start a new program for older residents in West Torrens around individual social support. If you'd like to find out more, view our advertisement on SEEK. There are several roles available and you'll be provided with on-going support and, if needed, training in some areas.
