Kings Reserve
Kings Reserve is a much-loved and well-utilised reserve within West Torrens and council is committed to enhancing its value through the development of an updated masterplan.
During 2024, council worked with the Kings Reserve Masterplan Community Reference Group (CRG) to review and refresh a masterplan that had been created in 2018. This masterplan focused on creating a space to meet the evolving needs of our community, however with the development of the neighbouring Adelaide Football Club headquarters at Thebarton Oval, the plan was reassessed and refreshed. The CRG, which included 6 local community members, the Mayor, 2 ward councillors and staff, was formed to review the plan, which has now been approved by council. While consultation on this plan has closed, you can still view it via the Your Say link below.
Where to now?
On 10 March 2026, sod was turned at the reserve by Treasurer and Member for West Torrens Hon. Tom Koutsantonis MP, Mayor Michael Coxon and CEO Angelo Catinari, marking the start of works.
The $8.5 million project, with $2.5 million provided by the State Government's Open Space Fund, is expected to be completed towards the end of 2026.
"This is a great day for our council and our local community," Mayor Coxon said.
"The re-development of this reserve into a state-of-the-art public space will become a standout park in the western suburbs and a place our community can be proud of.”
The upgrade works will improve connection and accessibility around and through the park, as well as create immersive spaces for relaxation and connection with nature and biodiversity.
Features include:
- Open area of irrigated lawn surrounded by mounded turf and trees.
- Shelters, barbecues, and public toilet.
- Active recreation facilities
- Playground equipment for older children and juniors, including all abilities play opportunities.
- Nature play space.
- Skate park and BMX pump track.
"This is another great example of how council and community can work together, and we thank the Kings Reserve Community Reference Group for its collaboration in helping to bring this project to fruition," Mayor Coxon said.
