SA Youth Week 2022

SA Youth Week (SAYW) is South Australia’s biggest celebration of young people aged 12-25.

Held over 10 days from Friday 13 May to Sunday 22 May, SAYW recognises their ideas, talents and contributions and includes a wide range of events and activities by and for young people.

Monday 16 May

RAA car care workshop

Have you ever wondered what’s under the bonnet?

RAA invites you to participate in their Car Care workshop. In this hands-on session, RAA representatives will share their expertise to build confidence in basic car maintenance.

Workshops involve thirty minutes of classroom theory and an hour of hands-on experience with an RAA vehicle whereby participants learn a broad range of skills including changing a tyre and checking the oil.

Venue: Hamra Centre Library, 1 Brooker Terrace, Hilton.

Time: 4.15pm - 5.45pm.

Ages: 15 – 25.

Tuesday 17 May

Women's self-defence class

Join martial artist and self defence expert Lauren Degabriele as she presents an introduction to women's self-defence. Topics covered include strategies for self-protection, crime prevention and personal awareness. Her class works no matter your experience, size, strength or fitness. You will have lots of fun too!

Venue: Adelaide University Thebarton Sports Centre, Building 5, Winwood Street, Thebarton.

Time: 6pm - 7.30pm.

Ages: 14 - 21 who identify as female.

Wednesday 18 May

Barista training with Living Jute and HG Coffee School

This workshop will introduce you to the skills needed to become a Barista and will cover:

  • Grinding coffee beans, dosing coffee and tamping coffee.
  • Steaming, stretching and pouring milk.
  • Customer service and what it's like to work in a café.

Venue: Living Jute, 1/231 Sir Donald Bradman Drive, Cowandilla.

Time: 4.30pm - 5.30pm.

Ages: 14 - 18.

Friday 20 May

Talking money - Financial literacy workshop

Money - It's something you'll always need. It can provide you freedom, and has the power to help you realise your dreams and secure your future. Join Mary from Uniting Care Wesley Bowden to find out how to look after it and use it wisely.

Venue: Hamra Centre Library, 1 Brooker Terrace, Hilton.

Time: 4.30pm - 6pm.
