As part of the State Government's efforts to further protect areas of Adelaide's metropolitan coastline from erosion, additional quarry sand will be delivered to beaches during spring.

Around 45,000m3 will be delivered in the coming months, with 30,000m3 going to West Beach and 14,500m3 to Henley Beach South.

Works will begin the week starting 13 October 2025, with delivery of quarry sand continuing through to 12 December 2025, subject to weather conditions. Works at Henley Beach South will be undertaken first, with works at West Beach scheduled to start in mid-November.

At West Beach, sand will be placed on the beach between the Adelaide Sailing Club and the West Beach Surf Life Saving Club. Trucks will access the beach via the Adelaide Sailing Club ramp.

Sand delivery will occur between 7am - 5pm Monday to Friday, excluding school and public holidays.

The Department for Environment and Water (DEW) will regularly meet with community clubs and businesses to manage operational matters and any overlaps with beach activities or events.

The replacement of sand on metropolitan beaches is essential to ensuring that there is a large enough sand buffer to protect infrastructure and reduce the potential effects of sustained erosion and severe storms.
