Local government elections, which were to have been held in November this year, have been delayed until April 2027.

In early June, the Electoral Commission of South Australia (ECSA) requested that legislation be introduced to parliament to delay the elections by 6 months to avoid the possibility of repeating issues which plagued the State Government election in March.

The bill that has been passed by parliament will see council elections held in an alternative year to state elections, with the next polling day for the local government SA elections now being 7 April 2027.

Parliament made the decision to change the legislation on Thursday 25 June 2026.
