$7 million worth of upgrades are set to begin at the Richmond Oval precinct in 2026; which is owned by the City of West Torrens. These works will deliver new accessible and inclusive changerooms and undertake important structural upgrades to the grandstand.

Richmond Oval is the proud home of the West Adelaide Football Club (WAFC), hosting both SANFL and SANFLW competitions. Beyond football, the oval forms part of a wider Richmond Oval Precinct, providing the local community with usable open space, playground and fitness facilities, and sportsgrounds.

In recent years council has been progressing a masterplan for the precinct, developed in partnership with WAFC. The masterplan aims to ensure future viability of the oval grandstand, remove barriers to female participation in sport, and provide broader community benefit through recreation, play, and green spaces. Development toward the masterplan started in 2022 with improvements to public access, new community cricket training nets, a play space, and picnic/barbecue areas.

The upgrade to the changeroom facility has been designed to align with future masterplan stages while modernising the precinct for current users.

This upgrade ensures that Richmond Oval is a safe, functional, and welcoming home for male and female footballers and a vibrant precinct for all.
