Think you can handle the heat?

Are you ready to test your spice tolerance against the fiercest chilli warriors? Burning Bites Down Under, proudly sponsored by Chilli Sauce Distributors, invites you to take on the ultimate chilli challenge!

10 brave competitors will battle through 15 fiery rounds, starting with mild jalapeños (3,000-6,000 Scoville) and pushing through to the blistering Carolina Reapers (1.64-2.2 million Scoville)! Half the rounds will feature fresh chillies, while the rest will challenge you with scorching chilli-infused products - think sauces, extracts, and more!

Prizes for the top 3 survivors

1st Place – $100 cash, medal, Fire & Spice prize pack, and a chance to represent South Australia in Sydney at the National Australian Chilli Championship!

2nd Place – $50 cash, medal, and Fire & Spice prize pack

3rd Place – $30 cash, medal, and Fire & Spice prize pack

Radio Italiana 531 hosts their annual pepperoncino competition at Fire & Spice, with prizes for the Best Looking, Longest and Hottest chillies.

Registration

Entry for this competition is FREE and registration will occur on the day at the Info Booth from 10am - 1pm.

Please note, this competition will have 3 categories: Hottest, Best Looking, and Longest chillies. You must handover your pod/s at registration in order to enter the competition.

A maximum 10 plants will be accepted per category, first in first served.

Competition and prizes

The competition will occur on stage (time TBC program subject to change). The winner of each category will be awarded a Fire & Spice prize pack.

We're excited to welcome the Western Adelaide State Emergency Service (SES) Unit to Fire & Spice this year.

Visit their display to meet the team, check out their rescue vehicle and equipment, and learn how to get prepared for emergencies.

The team will also be sharing how SES supports the community during storms, floods, and other emergencies.

Please note, only street parking is available at this event. We encourage patrons to use public transport, carpool or cycle to the event. Bike racks will be available near the event entry, on Rutland Avenue.

Event activities

• Market - Over 25 market stallholders will be located on Lockleys Oval. As there is a curb around the oval, a temporary ramp will be placed to assist wheelchair users and prams.
• Stage - Cooking demos and competitions will be located on the stage (see program for details). The stage will be located on the west side of Lockleys Oval, closest to the Lockleys Sporting Facility.
• Kids entertainment - There will be various children's activities at the event (see program for details). These activities will be located on the grassed area closest to Rutland Avenue.
  The Inflatable activities refer to a 3 Play Sports and a Drum Kit IPS - images of the Inflatable activities can be found here(PDF, 207KB).
  The Amazing Drumming Monkeys are an interactive puppet show which includes loud music.
• Food vendors - Food trucks will be located between the children's entertainment and the market stalls. This area will be on the flat, hard pavement.

Site

• Site - This event will take place outdoors on grass. There will not be any access to an indoor space. While there is a road from Rutland Avenue to the food vendors, this will be a shared space with vehicles. There is no path that allows access to the entire venue.
• Parking - Approx. 12 parks will be available for Disability Parking Permit holders on the day. These parks will be located in the Lockleys Bowling Club carpark (accessible via Rutland Avenue).
• Kiss 'n' Drop - There is no dedicated Kiss 'n' Drop zone at this event but there will be a loading zone in the Disability Access Parking area (in the Lockleys Bowling Club carpark).
• Information marquee - If you have any questions on the day, visit the City of West Torrens Information marquee. You can pick up a Hidden Disability Sunflower lanyard here if you require one. You can also grab a free "If I'm lost" wristband for children/clients, to display caregivers' contact number.
• Ramps - As there are curbs between the road and grassed areas, there will be temporary ramps in place to assist wheelchair users and prams - an image of the pedestrian access ramp can be found here(PDF, 181KB).
• Water refill - A free water refill bench will be located near the food trucks (between the children's entertainment and the market stalls). This area will be on flat, hard pavement (road). You will need to bring your own drink bottle to refill.
• Toilets - Temporary toilets will be near the food trucks (between the children's entertainment and the market stalls). This area will be on flat, hard pavement. There will be a 16pan toilet block and 1 accessible toilet - images of the temporary toilets can be found here(PDF, 123KB).
• Changing Places - A Changing Places facility is not available at this event. The closest facilities are at Henley Square (Henley Beach) and Harbour Town (West Beach).
