AI 101: Understanding the Basics is an introductory, plain‑language session designed to help people understand what artificial intelligence is, how it works, and why it matters in everyday life. The presentation demystifies AI by explaining key concepts like data, machine learning, and pattern recognition, highlights common myths and limitations, and shows where AI is already used - from search engines and streaming services to libraries, education, and healthcare. It also encourages critical thinking about ethics, bias, privacy, and responsible use, positioning AI literacy as an essential skill for confident, informed participation in today’s digital world.

Presented by Zoran Opacic – Digital Literacy Programs Officer, Public Library Services

Zoran leads digital literacy initiatives across South Australia, delivering engaging workshops for both library staff and communities. His work spans AI, misinformation, cybersecurity, scams, Google Super Searchers, and digital citizenship, with a strong focus on accessibility and inclusion. Through partnerships with LibrariesSA and Good Things Foundation Australia, he is helping bring AI learning opportunities to communities across the state.
