Try your hand at a new activity during Adult Learners Week from 1 to 8 September. The schedule includes craft, nutrition, personal styling, recycling, retirement planning and the new sport of pickleball. See the full list of events below - they're all free.

Note: Participants must be 18 years or older and be residents of West Torrens (proof required). Some events require bookings, so phone the number listed or use the Eventbrite link.

Thursday 1 September

Tour the Central Adelaide Waste & Recycling Authority Materials Recovery Facility

9.45am - 12.45pm, meet at the Hamra Centre Library, 1 Brooker Terrace, Hilton.
SA’s newest recycling facility is able to process 50,000 tonnes of recyclables per year from household yellow bins, using the latest in optical sorting technology to produce clean commodities ideal for developing local markets. Join us for the unique, close-up opportunity to view the entire recycling process. Express yourself with art and craft

10.30am - 1pm, Craft & Art Space, Hamra Centre Library, 1 Brooker Terrace, Hilton. 
Would you like to develop new art and craft skills and have fun through self-expression? Come and use the free equipment and supplies at our Craft and Art Space. Resources include a sewing machine, Cricut machine, badge maker and regular art and craft supplies. No bookings required.

Look stylish without costing the Earth

10am - 12noon, Apex Park Community Facility, 616 Burbridge Rd, West Beach
Would you like to reduce your environmental footprint but still look stylish? Or perhaps you find yourself standing in front of your overflowing wardrobe yet still feel you have nothing to wear? One way to reduce your fashion footprint is to minimise the amount of new clothes you buy and keep your wardrobe simple. Drop-in tech help

10am - 1pm, Hamra Centre Library, 1 Brooker Terrace, Hilton. 
Free tech help for computer and mobile technology users. Participants can register for a drop-in session with a staff member and receive assistance on most IT related topics. Monday 5 September

Preparing healthy, affordable meals

10am - 11.30am, West Torrens Auditorium, 1 Brooker Terrace, Hilton.
Did you know we require 30% more protein foods as we age, compared with when we were younger - but these foods are often expensive. Learn practical ways you can achieve your nutritional requirements simply, cheap and healthily with Rebecca Greco, diabetes educator and dietitian from Nourish. Bookings at Eventbrite.

 

Monday Yarn Knitting Group

Mindset For Life Lite

3pm - 6.30pm, West Torrens Auditorium, 1 Brooker Terrace, Hilton.
This program is designed for people in the second half of their life to think about what matters to them and how they want to design the rest of their lives for both pleasure and purpose. The session offers people some tools and resources to design their own retirement. Bookings at Eventbrite.

Come-and-Try Pickleball

10am - 12noon, Netball SA Stadium, 155 Railway Tce, Mile End South.
