Heritage Grants now open
Published on 22 September 2021
The City of West Torrens understands the importance of helping local residents retain and maintain character properties in the area and, as such, during the years has provided funding through our Heritage Grants program.
In the past two years we have supported numerous local residents with more than $68,000 in grants for Local Heritage and Representative buildings, to help owners and occupiers undertake necessary repairs and/or restorations. It’s estimated that, including applicant investment, around $287,000 worth of work has been undertaken on various buildings.
There is an increasing recognition of the economic and social benefits of conserving heritage places and areas. Globally, adaptive reuse of heritage buildings continues to play a vital role in securing their future and helping to define character of place.
Council recognises that funds for heritage properties:
- helps strengthen the heritage protection of listed buildings
- unlocks economic potential of heritage places
- creates vibrant precincts
- encourages conservation skills development
- supports employment in the construction industry and associated fields.
New round of grants now open
The 2020/21 Heritage Grants are now open and submissions can be made until close of business, Friday 3 December 2021. There are guidelines associated with the grants and, depending on the nature of work to be undertaken, development approval may be required. Those considering applying for a grant may wish to chat with our Duty Planner during business hours on 8416 6333 to discuss possible projects. If approval is required, a development application will need to be lodged before an application for funding.
For more information, visit our grants page or contact Claudio or Caitlin at Council on 8416 6333.
