The City of West Torrens Council and the Adelaide Football Club have entered a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to progress a masterplan for the redevelopment of the Thebarton Oval Precinct as the Club's new headquarters.

The decision to enter the MOA came as a result of a special Council meeting on 8 November 2022 where Council considered feedback from the local community to grant the Club the option to lease Thebarton Oval for a period of 42 years, with the possibility of extension for another 42 years.

The MOA is not an agreement for the Club to be granted rights to lease the Precinct; it is an agreement for both parties to progress a masterplan for the area, which will be required to be publicly consulted on and approved by Council.

Now that the MOA has been approved, Adelaide Football Club has indicated that it will release a draft masterplan for public consultation in the very near future. Council and the Club will work together to provide the local community with as many options as possible to provide feedback and discuss elements of the draft masterplan. Adelaide Football Club has agreed to incorporate community representation into the project to ensure that our local community has the opportunity to be involved.

Note: on 3 November 2022, Mayor Coxon released an open letter to the community regarding the proposal. You can read the open letter here

Geoff Brock MP, to apply for an exemption to make a designated decision during Caretaker Period can be read here and you can view the letter of response from the Minister to Council granting the exemption here
