Each year to celebrate World Environment Day in June, our Council hosts a Native Plant Giveaway for local residents.
This year’s will be held on Saturday 2 June 2018 between 10am and 1pm in the West Torrens Memorial Gardens, Brooker Terrace, Hilton. Local residents are invited to bring along the voucher (download and print out) pdf (198KB) and swap it for a free pack of native plants. Vouchers are also available from Council's Civic Centre, 165 Sir Donald Bradman Drive, Hilton, or contact our Environment Team. Alternatively, complete the online form below and present proof of the automated email to our staff on the day, along with proof of residence in West Torrens.
Why native plants?
The gradual expansion of urban settlements has led to the disappearance of many local native plants from their natural environment across the Adelaide plains. By reinstating locally indigenous plants in your garden at home, you will be helping to ensure these increasingly rare species are preserved.
It is hoped that around 5,000 locally indigenous seedlings will be planted across the western suburbs as a result of our Native Plant Giveaway this year.
Get your plants
Local residents can only redeem plant packs if they have a completed voucher and present this on the day. Plant packs are limited (one per household) and residents must meet terms and conditions outlined on the voucher.
Each pack contains a selection of 12 hardy, attractive and water wise species that will bring colour and life to any garden. There will also be an interesting variety of plant forms including flowers and low shrubs.
