In order to help meet the growing needs of our community and provide better and more user-friendly spaces, the City of West Torrens is upgrading, and has upgraded, a number of larger recreational spaces in West Torrens, including Camden Park, Mellor Park, Apex Park, Lockleys Oval, Kings Reserve and Weigall Oval.

Kings Reserve redevelopment

In 2018, Council endorsed a masterplan for the upgrade of Kings Reserve following a consultation period with the community. Some elements of the plan have already been implemented while others are still to be actioned.

With the Adelaide Football Club's approach to Council to lease Thebarton Oval and part of Kings Reserve to develop a new headquarters for the Club, it is timely to re-open consultation with our community on the future development of the area of Kings Reserve that is outside of the Club's proposed masterplan lease area.

To assist with this project, Council agreed in 2023 to appoint a Kings Reserve Masterplan Community Reference Group (CRG) to act in an advisory capacity to represent the wider views of the local community.

Following an Expression of Interest period during September 2023, 14 applications were received, with all demonstrating the key criteria to be a member of the CRG. These applications were provided to the Elected Council for review and shortlisting, with all personal information being removed to ensure that an objective and impartial shortlisting process occurred. As a result, the following community members were elected to this group:

  • Ms Lisa Allison
  • Ms Roxane Adams
  • Dr Rebecca Bilton
  • Ms Narelle Walker
  • Mr Tom Slowinski
  • Dr Emma Dawes.

In addition to the community members listed, the Mayor, 2 Elected Members and officers of Council are involved with the CRG.

The CRG began operation in February 2024.
