In order to help meet the growing needs of our community and provide better and more user-friendly spaces, the City of West Torrens is upgrading, and has upgraded, a number of larger recreational spaces in West Torrens, including Camden Park, Mellor Park, Apex Park, Lockleys Oval, Kings Reserve and Weigall Oval.

Apex Park upgrade

Apex Park is one of the most visited sites in West Torrens and a significant upgrade of the site was completed in 2019 with support from the Australian Government Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development through the Community Development Grants program.

The first stage of the upgrade has improved the versatility of the site, as well as safety and amenity, and enhances the natural environment.

The Lockleys Guides and Scouts SA share a licence for the new community facility at Apex Park. The facility is available for community use/hire.

During 2021, Council was successful in receiving funding through the State Government's Open Space and Places for People fund to undertake the next stage of work (Stage 2) at the reserve. This stage is now complete and includes a BMX facility for both beginners and intermediate riders, a large event space with irrigated turf, picnic seating, shelters, footbridge across the wetland, basketball 3-on-3 court, along with additional paths and plants.

Additional play equipment for the northern side of the wetland, and an extension to the carpark, is planned for 2024.

An elevated boardwalk is currently under construction, linking Apex Park to Breakout Creek Stage 3. This is expected to be completed in the first half of 2024.
