Council has developed a Disability Action and Inclusion Plan (DAIP) which outlines how we can help ensure that everyone in our community has access to the amenities and services they need in West Torrens.
The Plan has six outcomes:
- Inclusive and accessible communities.
- Economic security and employment.
- Rights protection, justice and legislation.
- Personal and community support.
- Learning and skills.
- Health and well-being.
Background
On 1 July 2018, the Disability Inclusion Act 2018 was instigated. This Act provides a legal framework to support equal access and participation for people with disability in the community. The Act requires the completion of a State Disability Inclusion Plan (SDIP) by 31 October 2020 which will set out across-government policies and priorities. Sitting below the SDIP councils will be required to produce their own Disability Access and Inclusion Plan, which will be reported on annually and reviewed every four years.
In developing our DAIP, we engaged various stakeholders within the disability sector for direction and feedback and, as a result, we now have a plan which provides us with a series of objectives and initiatives to achieve in the future.
