The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) is proposing to establish a groundwater prohibition area in parts of Keswick, Forestville, Ashford, Everard Park, Wayville and Mile End South. As such, residents who live in those areas are being contacted.
Keswick and surrounding suburbs have a proud manufacturing history, with former white goods and vehicle manufacturing, electroplating, concrete batching and newspaper printing all taking place in this area. As a result, past chemical disposal and handling practices in these industries have contaminated the groundwater.
The EPA has commenced a 90-day community consultation about this proposal, and the following fact sheet provides further information. An online engagement portal has been established (visit www.engage.epa.sa.gov.au/Keswick) where you can ask questions, share stories about the history of the area, register to ‘stay informed’ and keep up to date with the latest news. You can also download copies of past assessment reports.
If you have any queries, or would like further information, contact the EPA's Site Contamination Branch.
