Council has recently received a few complaints from the general public that the Animal Welfare League (AWL) will not take stray cats that have been captured.
The AWL's Edinburgh North facility is currently full. They have informed us, however, that if you take a cat to the facility that has been caught in a council trap, they will accept the feline. Litters of kittens and random cats will be turned away. Cat traps can be hired to residents of West Torrens for a period of 14 days. A bond is payable upon collection of the cage, which is refunded in full when the cage is returned in a clean and undamaged condition. More information can be found here
South Australia is currently facing a major over-population of unowned cats. While some cats may be bothering you at home, not all cats are unowned.
More information about strays can be found on the AWL website.
If you have found a cat that has no form of identification, you can check on the Lost Pets of South Australia Facebook site to see if the cat has been reported missing.
