Local Area Traffic Management (LATM) is concerned with the planning and management of the usage of road space within a local traffic area. It involves the use of physical devices, streetscaping treatments and other measures (including regulations and other non-physical measures) to influence vehicle operation, in order to create safer and more pleasant street in local areas. (Austroads - Guide to Traffic Management Part 8: Local Area Traffic Management)
A LATM plan is a formal and strategic way of investigating traffic, parking, freight, pedestrian, cycling, public transport and urban designs and amenity issues within a study area. The key objectives of this style of study are to:
- improve the safety of the street network; and
- reduce the environmental impact of traffic.
In achieving these objectives, the LATM plan must also consider:
- maintaining access through the City; and
- avoiding transferring traffic from one street to another.
An LATM can result in simple, low cost measures such as line-marking and signage, through to major works such as road humps, roundabouts and slow points.

- Development of this report involved extensive data collection and community consultation. Council has adopted a staging plan to consider identified issues in greater detail.
Project concepts have been developed from the LATM plan that specifically relate to the Stage 1. These plans can be accessed by clicking on the links below. Alternatively, these can be viewed at the Thebarton Community Centre or Council's Civic Centre.
Feedback is being sought on these concepts via the linked form. Feedback will be accepted up until Friday the 25th of March 2016 and the projects will subsequently be reviewed by the working party. Following this the projects will begin to enter construction phase and consultation will continue with any properties directly affected throughout this period.
