The Home Library is a friendly and personalised service provided to local residents who are not able to attend the Library due to illness, disability or frailty. This service has been expanded to include those residents who are vulnerable and isolated due to COVID-19.
How it works
A Home Library staff member will call you to discuss your interests and needs. The staff member then selects a range of items to suit your tastes. At the next visit these items are then swapped over.
Some clients use the service on a temporary basis (during illness) and others take part on an ongoing basis.
Items available
You can borrow the following items:
- large print and regular books
- fiction and non-fiction books
- audio books
- magazines
- items in community languages
- jigsaw puzzles
- CDs and DVDs.
Home pick up
If you are mobile and willing but don’t have transport, the Home Library Service collects you from your home and takes you to the Hamra Centre Library. Our staff member then returns you to your door when you are ready to go home.
The service generally runs once a week on a weekday morning. Check with the Home Library Service for pick up days and times and make arrangements for a library visit.
