In order to help meet the growing needs of our community and provide better and more user-friendly spaces, the City of West Torrens is upgrading a number of larger recreational spaces in West Torrens, including Camden Park, Mellor Park, Apex Park, Lockleys Oval, Kings Reserve and Weigall Oval.
Apex Park upgrade
Stage 1 of this upgrade is now complete and the park is open to the public. The redevelopment improves the versatility of the site, as well as safety and amenity and enhancement of the natural environment.
Stage 1 works included a new community building, car parking, duck pond, public access courts, horse arena, upgraded playground, as well as an upgraded wetland (water recirculation system).
The Lockleys Guides and Scouts SA share a licence for the new community facility at Apex Park. The facility is expected to be available for community use/hire by the end of 2020, subject to Council approval and the easing of COVID-19 restrictions.
A number of additional elements will be planned for future years to complete upgrade works, including a bike track, additional public toilets, nature play area and additional landscaping. These will be subject to funding and further information will be provided when this occurs.
Funding for Stage 1 works was received from the Australian Government Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development through the Community Development Grants program.
