For many years the City of West Torrens has been the custodian of Cummins House on behalf of the State Government.

We have leased the state-heritage listed property for more than 30 years at a cost of around $100,000 per year for upkeep and maintenance.

During the past couple of years, Council has been negotiating with the State Government to take ownership of the property for little or no cost, however we were informed that we could only take over the property if we were prepared to pay 'market value'. In late 2018 our Council informed the State Government that we were not prepared to bid for the property (at an estimated value of around $4 million). Instead, Council chose to hand the property back to the State Government at the end of 2018. In the past few months we have been in on-going negotiations with the State Government about the property, however as of 31 May 2019, the City of West Torrens will no longer have anything to do with Cummins House. As a result the Cummins House website, which was developed by Council, has been deactivated. All enquiries regarding Cummins House are to be directed to the Department for Environment and Water on 8204 1910.
