Proposed vision and rezoning for Underdale and Torrensville Industrial Area

The City of West Torrens has been researching the current Underdale and Torrensville Industrial area to consider options for the future. As part of this process, Council has undertaken economic analysis, planning investigations and environmental site investigations. Members of the community have also provided their input and ideas for the future planning of the area.

Council has prepared the Urban Renewal Development Plan Amendment (DPA) pdf (5MB) for community feedback. You are invited to provide comments in relation to the DPA by:

*Please note, your full name and residential address must be included for your feedback to be considered an acceptable submission.

All submissions must be received by 5pm Wednesday 23 August 2017.

The DPA report pdf (5MB)community fact sheet pdf (5MB), medium density housing fact sheet pdf (1MB) and submission form pdf (104KB) can be viewed below or at Council's Civic Centre, 165 Sir Donald Bradman Drive Hilton.

To discuss the proposal in person, community members are invited to attend a Community Information  ‘Drop in’ Session at the Thebarton Community Centre, corner Ashwin Parade and South Road, Torrensville, 4pm to 6.30pm on Wednesday 26 July 2017. After the consultation period, a Public Meeting may be held if people making a submission would like to verbally present their submission to Council. This Public Meeting is scheduled to be held at 7pm on Tuesday 5 September 2017 in the Council Chambers, City of West Torrens Civic Centre. If no one requests to speak at the Public Meeting, it will not be held.

Long-term vision

Through this process, Council has identified a long term vision for the rejuvenation of this part of Underdale and Torrensville to:

  • take advantage of being close to the River Torrens Linear Park, the CBD, local shops and facilities
  • allow development opportunities for vacant properties
  • improve long term impacts associated with the residential and industry land use interface
  • respond to long term trends in declining industrial development in inner suburban areas
  • respond to local community interest.

Council proposes to implement a long term vision to transition from the existing industrial land uses to primarily residential development and other development compatible with housing.

The next steps

Once the consultation process has been completed, Council will carefully consider all submissions and decide whether or not to undertake the Development Plan Amendment to enable the rezoning.  Should it proceed, the Development Plan Amendment will be sent to the Minister for Planning for a final decision on rezoning the land.
