Australian of the Year nominations open

Do you know a local worthy of the title Australian of the Year? You may wish to nominate them for the 2018 Award. 

The Australian of the Year Awards program relies on the public to submit nominations for people deserving of recognition and nominations are now open.

There are various categories:

  • Australian of the Year
  • Senior Australian of the Year
  • Young Australian of the Year
  • Australia's Local Hero.

Nominations are open until Sunday 6 August 2017 and can be made online at www.australianoftheyear.org.au.

Nominees must be Australian citizens. Nominees for Young Australian of the year must be aged between 16 and 30, while nominees for Senior Australian of the Year must be aged 65 and over.

Approximately 3,000 individuals are nominated for the Awards each year, with 128 of these extraordinary Australians recognised as State and Territory finalists. Those selected as State and Territory Award recipients go on to be finalists for the national Awards which will be announced on 25 January 2018 in Canberra.
