Proposed vision and rezoning for Underdale and Torrensville Industrial Area

The City of West Torrens has been researching the current Underdale and Torrensville Industrial area to consider options for the future. Council proposes to implement a long term vision to transition from the existing industrial land uses to primarily residential development and other development compatible with housing. Through this process, Council has identified a long term vision for the rejuvenation of this part of Underdale and Torrensville to:

  • take advantage of being close to the River Torrens Linear Park, the CBD, local shops and facilities
  • allow development opportunities for vacant properties
  • improve long term impacts associated with the residential and industry land use interface
  • respond to long term trends in declining industrial development in inner suburban areas
  • respond to local community interest.

As part of this process, Council has undertaken economic analysis, planning investigations and environmental site investigations. Members of the community have also provided their input and ideas for the future planning of the area.

Community Consultation

Council released the Urban Renewal Development Plan Amendment (DPA) pdf (5MB) for community feedback between 27 June 2017 and 23 August 2017. The public submissions period has now closed and a public meeting was held on Tuesday 5 September 2017.

The next steps

On 3 October 2017, Council’s Strategy and Community Committee considered the submissions received, endorsed changes to the proposed rezoning and decided to submit the formal Development Plan Amendment to the Minister for Planning for a final decision on rezoning the land.
